AVAILABLE // A wearable meditation on the longest night
Description // This loved garment is ready for a new home, and is freshly adorned for the occasion. In the three days leading up to this year’s longest night, I spent many hours adorning this Solstice-blue jacket that was a hand-me-over from a former love. I’ve been ready to let this garment go for a while, but it felt better to send it off with solstice magic embedded in the cloth.
Pricing // To express interest in this garment, read the description below and then complete the linked Google Form at the bottom of this page. The sliding scale range for this piece is $60-$260. Rather than a first-come first-served model or an auction based on the highest bidder, I invite you to tell me what you can afford and then share with me a story about the longest night and what it means to you. This can be a personal experience, a fiction, a poem, a song, etc. If words aren’t your thing, please complete the Form and then email me at thebodyconnected at gmail dot com with your painting, photograph, audio recording, dance video, etc (but please keep brevity in mind, I am only one chronically ill person!).
Materials // The base garment was originally from the GAP, approximately 10-15 years old. 100% cotton medium-weight exterior in comfortable broken-in condition with no rips or tears, and fully intact black polyester lining. Zipper works perfectly and pocket interiors are in excellent shape. Adorned by hand with gray velvet elbow patches (100% cotton vintage velvet), crescent-shaped pocket patches, moon-sliver-shaped shoulder patches, and a row of rose quartz and tourmalinated quartz beads under the collar. All of the patches were designed, sewn, and hand embroidered by me using a variety of natural fiber threads–including deep blue alpaca yarn, hand-dyed light wool, and variegated Northern Lights-y thread–with abstract imagery of the interwoven conversation between dark and bright.
